John Ballard Hinshaw1,7 [J.B. Henshaw8,9].

Born Jul - 18332,6,7 [about 184410], Hickman County, Kentucky2,6,7.

He married Malonna Frances Shaver1 [Fanny Shaver1,3], Jan 9 18681, Cross County, Arkansas1.  Malonna, daughter of William Ashley Shaver & Matilda Stone, was born 1849, Bay Village, Poinsett County, Arkansas.3,8,11

Vianna had apparently been previously married (or had a relationship with) a -- Hipp or -- Hip, with whom she had a daughter, Fannie Hip/Hipp.  Vianna was shown in the 1880 census living with her parents and family in Fulton County, Arkansas, shown as a widow (which was commonly shown for other reasons such as divorce), with her daughter Fannie Hip [Hipp].14

A marriage license was issued for John Ballard Hinshaw & Vianna Hipp (Mar 8 1881),13 but no completed marriage record/return is known to exist in government records.  According to family folklore, John Ballard Hinshaw intended to marry Vianna until he found out her child had been born out of wedlock and so he cancelled the wedding, saying he wasn't going to marry a "green skirted round heels".1

John and Vianna seem to have either never married, or quickly divorced or separated (a very short marriage), as Vianna [re]married to James William Blue, Jul 4 1886, Independence County, Arkansas,17,18 with whom she had children Arminta E. "Minty" Blue (Apr 1887), Charles/Charley Eber Blue (Mar 1889) and Willie May Blue (Apr 1893).15,16,20  Vianna died Nov 5 1931, buried Nail Cemetery, Izard County, Arkansas.19

Note that Laura had been shown in the 1880 census as a servant in John Ballard Hinshaw's household.2  She was 26 years younger than John.2

John was a fiddle player of some repute in the area where he lived.  Some old newspaper accounts from the Sharp County (Arkansas) Register, a local newspaper, tell of soirees where he provided the music.  Also, the account of the birth of his first daughter says he "grabbed his fiddle and began to play 'The Girl I Left Behind Me'".  John was a well-known blacksmith and is said to have been a favorite of Jesse James and his gang.1
