William Foster Wrathall

Derek Wrathall of Skipton, who has done considerable research on Yorkshire and Lancashire Wrathalls, contributed the following information about William Foster Wrathall , the father of Evelyn Wrathall of Canada , who married Linsay Wrathall, uncle of Brenda Heinsma .
Many dates are missing and all that I have came from William Edward (Ted), William Foster's son, with verification of some dates from memorial inscriptions.

Ted Wrathall in fact gave me the address in Brandon, Manitoba, of Edward, Evelyn's son. As you see, the original John Wrathall doesn't fit with any of the Johns in our family tree so I am doing an exercise like the one for John James in Rhodesia and sending for certificates.

For photos and more information on William Foster Wrathall, see the page for the Burton Millennium History Group. Derek was able to conclude his research on the lineage of William Foster Wrathall in Mar/Apr. 2001:
I am another step further with William Foster Wrathall in that I know that his grandfather, Stephen married Betty (or Elizabeth) Towers. Their son, John was born on 6 Jun 1845 at Austwick. The marriage certificate for Stephen WRATHALL and Elizabeth TOWERS has .... the following details:

Elizabeth is described as a spinster of full age residing at Graystone Gill, father John Towers a shoemaker. The marriage took place at Bentham. The witnesses were Mary Wrathall and Thomas Wrathall and these were probably siblings of Stephen. ..... it would appear that John Wrathall and Elizabeth Baynes were [Stephen's] parents.

In the Ingleton Parish Register I found the baptism of Stephen WRATHALL, 4 Dec 1815, the son of John WRATHALL & Ellen BAYNES, (gf of William Foster WRATHALL) and of Mary, 28 Sep 1817, the daughter of John & Ellen. Thomas, their son, according to the IGI, was born 23 Sep 1819 at Thornton-in-Lonsdale and there may be other siblings born there. I think the connection of William Foster Wrathall to our tree is now pretty conclusive.

The information gathered so far places Evelyn near Brenda, sharing the same ancestor John Wrathall (1792 - ), in Descendants of John Wrathall and Anne Pickersgill. Evelyn is descended from John's first known son, Stephen (1816 - ), while Evelyn's husband Lindsay and Brenda are descended from John's second known son, Anthony (1827 - ). Thus Evelyn and Lindsay share the same great-great-grandfather, John Wrathall (1792 - ). This means that, using the degrees of kindred according to legal precedent, Lindsay and Evelyn are each other's third cousins, and Evelyn is Brenda's third cousin, once removed, in the ascendancy.
