Pidgin Info
Pop windows to top when new message appears
- Open Tools->Plugins
- find "Message Notification 2.5.5"
- click it to enable it.
- click "configure plugin"
- Select:
YES: IM Windows
- no: Chat windows
- no: Focused windows
- ...
- YES: Set window manager URGENT hint
- YES: Raise conversation window
- ...
- YES: (all options under "Notification removal" marked YES)
Use with windows communicator
easy way: sudo apt-get install pidgin-sipe
(If easy way works, ignore the rest.)
You need the sipe plugin. Download the source pidgin-sipe-.tgz from web http://sipe.sourceforge.net/.
Untar, build and install according to "Install" directions from above link. Something like this:
- sudo apt-get install autotools-dev pkg-config libglib2.0-dev libgtk2.0-dev libpurple-dev libtool intltool comerr-dev
- tar -xzvf pidgin-sipe-1.6.2.tar.gz
- cd pidgin-sipe-1.6.2
- ./configure --prefix=/usr
- make
- sudo make install
(Note: you need to use --prefix= to tell it where pidgin is installed. If installed with apt-get this is probably /usr. If installed from source this might be /usr/local.)

See list of "All IM acounts" in my personal password file.
Import/export contact lists
NOTE: This is not necessary and I have never used it. Ignore this section.
sudo apt-get install pidgin-plugin-pack
Open Tools->Plugins. Find "List Handler" and enable it.
Export with Tools->ListHandler->ExportGenericBuddyListFile
Import with Tools->ListHandler->ImportGenericBuddyListFile
