Why Richard Brautigan Should Be the Patron Saint of 'Zines by Erik Miller

I wrote this essay for a friend's 'zine in the early '90's, before the WWW actually became the place where anyone could publish anything they wanted to for public consumption. Perhaps I should write an update regarding the WWW, which delights me in the same way that the idea of Richard's library delighted me. The piece seems kind of quaint to me, just 8 years after I wrote it.

Kiss Me, I'm Nothing by Barbara Ehrenreich

This essay was published in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1992, and in Ehrenreich's book The Worst Years of Our Lives: Irreverent Notes on a Decade of Greed, a book whose title describes my opinion of the 1980's. She does the best job I have seen of expressing how I feel about my family heritage, and the sort of American I am proud to be. It makes my eyes water up and my chest swell with pride.
