RESUME

 

C. Scott Young dba Dimensional Graphics has worked from a wide based multimedia platform. He became the first computer artist of the VRML platform, (beginning in 1993) when Mark Pesce, initially approached Scott to create 3-dimensional models.

As well Scott's work has appeared nationally and internationally in magazines, books, television and, of course, numerous web sites. Most well known for founding the VRML Knights and creating the dwellers of Cyberspace, known as the Idioms, the Avatarian race of Cyberspace. Scott continues to design and implement cutting edge and unique work for industries and individuals.

 

BOOKS

Pesce, Mark, VRML Browsing and Building in Cyberspace, Indianapolis, Indiana: New Riders Publishing, 1995. Scott illustrated this book and created several of the VRML models.

Pesce, Mark, VRML Flying through the Web Cyberspace, Indianapolis, Indiana: New Riders Publishing, 1996. Many of Scott's VRML models appear throughout this book, including the Carrot Defender (pages 98-100), the Zero Circle (color section), and Moving Sword.wrl (pages 182-193). Also listed three times in the chapter "25 Great VRML Sites" (The Zero Circle, No. 3; Dimensional Graphics’ VRML Home Page, No. 4; Dimensional Graphics’ Keltic Pyramid, No. 5).

Kay, David & Muder, Douglas, VRML & 3D on the Web for Dummies, Foster City, California: IDG Books Worldwide, 1996. Three pages of screen shots in the color section (Figures 10, 11 and 12) is dedicated to Scott's VRML models. A review of Scott's work (page 84) states, "Some of the best VRML art is being produced by C. Scott Young."

 

Pearce, Celia The Interactive Book, Indianapolis, Indiana: New Riders Publishing, 1997. Many of Scott's VRML models appear in this book, including the famous Id Ville, the Carrot Defender, and the Celfish.

Id Ville premiers as a multifunctional site in Cyberspace that organizes a database of information and resources in a VRML interface. Id Ville includes an art garden that links to sites of other artists; an enchanted land that links to a children's story center; and a political rally section wherein the Idiom speak of censorship.

Kid Cast for World Peace, San Francisco, California, Fall 1996. The Idiom discover Earth as a parallel dimension to their own. A VRML flag ship, a giant bee called Terra-Ki commanded by Captain Id. T. Kirt, contains links to other sites created by the Idiom and miscellaneous VRML models. The VRML Earth Station, a giant flower called Daffodil 5, links to tools and browsers needed to construct VRML, HTML and Cu-Cme technology .

Online96 High Tech Entertainment Arena, TEIRNet Associates and the Internet Organization, The Concourse Exposition Center, San Francisco, California, July 11 - 13, 1996. The Idiom return in a project known as the Dream Factory, which combines VRML and HTML to create a children's education center to teach ages 6 and up how to use HTML and VRML.

E2A Earth to Avatar 96, Anna Hotel, San Francisco CA, October 26-27. Part of the organization team. Artwork created for the show involved designing T-shirts, posters and hats. Also, organized the Art Show Room. 3D art shown, 'The Carrot Defender' a VRML comic strip.

Siggraph 97, LA Convention Center, October 6. Panelist for Interactive Environments. Topic of talk dealt with the use of the imagination as a link into creation. How spirit can be brought into VR worlds to create depth of content.

TECHNOLOGY USED BY AND SKILLS OF C. SCOTT YOUNG

Scott primarily uses Autodesk's 3DStudio program for creating VRML models on a PC. A 1993 graduate of Platt College's graphics arts program, Scott is proficient in Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and the Corel graphics suite. Scott predominately creates VRML models, although he also can and does design HTML sites with VRML, audio and other multimedia links.
