Welcome
to Gemma's Golden Haiku
collection.
While the
limerick is her favorite fun kind of poetry,
HAIKU is
her preferred form
of more
serious (but not always!), contemplative verse.
She likes
the Zen of it, being a rather philosophical Golden knucklehead....
The Haiku
is a type of lyrical poetry which was first developed in Japan.
It is a
tightly constructed form which demands
conciseness
and sparity of language.
The haiku
traditionally consists of three lines with a total of
seventeen
syllables in this configuration: 5-7-5.

Here are
some Golden Haiku -- haiku written by owners
(or humans
owned by) Golden Retrievers, that wonderful breed
who keep
us laughing, loving,
and scratching
our heads in wonderment....
ENJOY!
This is my
own Rainbow Bridge Haiku,
in honor of
all those Goldens who have left us to romp and frolic
in a better
place, with no pain and no fear.
They appear
as stars in our night sky....
Our
dark nights dazzled
By
a Golden gleam of stars--
We
look up, smiling
My
Golden girl naps
waiting
for her mom to move
she
snorts, blinks, and sighs--
The livingroom
floor
is
more a graveyard, littered
with
maimed woobie souls

Hair so soft

From mahogany

Lies thick in

Throw, chase,

When master
comes home
Throw a tennis
ball
Out into the
deep water
Joyful, I retrieve
A tennis ball
falls
Unseen, unsought
by Goldens
Does it make
a sound?
A ball I can
chase-
Perhaps I'll
bring it to you.
Throw it again,
please.
Warm, soft, golden

A pleasure to
touch, and yet,
Cleanup--what
a B*TCH!
