Gemma's Golden Haiku Collection

The "Will to Live" Haiku Contest
WE HAVE A WINNER!!

But first, here's the story....
Named "Phoenix's Will"
by his rescuers at LIGRR,
little Will is fighting for his life!
He was found after being
hit by a car, then used as "bait"
for fighting pit bulls,
then kicked and left for dead
by some subhuman.

Will, getting some TLC....

Here is a link to
"Phoenix Will's" website

We had soooo many wonderful Haiku submitted --
many lovingly dedicated to Phoenix Will -- but only one author
could win the GRand prize of a Golden retriever quilt (see below).

Congratulations,
Jean Farny!

The winning Haiku (two of them actually) combined all the elements
that make this form of poetry so unique and special:
The proper format (3 lines, total of 17 syllables, 5-7-5 pattern) while
capturing a moment in time, painting a picture with words,
revealing a simple slice of life which represents a much larger feeling.
Not only that, but the winning haiku (as did they all) give us a brief but powerful
glimpse into the wonderful world of living with Goldens.
