OTHER "Gemmas"!!
"I know it is
difficult to swallow
(especially
when your mum has you in a stranglehold) --
but there are
MORE of us fuzzbutts named Gemma out there!
And I don't
know how those hoomins arrived at the name,
but this is
what my mum says inspired her:
"Gemma" is actually
a Latin word which means, "precious stone"
and is the derivation
of the English word gem or gemstone.
It is also a
fairly popular Italian and Welsh name;
in fact, one
of my mum's favorite British (Welsh by birth)
actresses is
called Gemma Jones
("Duchess of
Duke Street" and "Sense and Sensibility"
to name just
a few of her film credits).
And as if that
weren't enough, my Uncle Rick (my mum's brother)
is a gem dealer
and jewelry designer in Bangkok, Thailand.
