Zurishaddai Doty (Dotte) was a blacksmith by trade.4,7 He served in the French war of 1756 in the same company of which his brother in law, Dr. Challis Safford, was surgeon.7 During the Revolution he was employed by the government as a blacksmith in the army.4,7 About 1752 he moved to Hardwick, Massachusetts.4 About the close of the war he removed to Wilmington, VT.4,7 The will of James Alexander of New Perth, Charlotte (now Salem, Washington) NY, is withnessed by Zurishaddai Doty, July 16, 1783, from which we infer that he lived there at that time (His brother, Theodorus, being also a resident of that town).7
