He married Violet I. Brummett.7,9,10,12 Violet, daughter of Homer Brummett & Bessie Mae Poling, was born Jan 9 1912, Lexington, McLean County, Illinois.12
In 1994-2000 Elmer was living at 208 S. Babcock, Topeka, LaGrange County, Indiana.7,8,13,14
William Elmer Hanshew died Dec 21 2000, Vencor Hospital, LaGrange, LaGrange County, Indiana; age 89.7,9,10 (Dec 28 2000).8
Violet died Jul 3 2011, Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange, LaGrange County, Indiana; age 99.12
Violet's obituary was published as follows:12
Violet I. Hanshew, age 99, of Topeka, IN passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 4:10 AM in Parkview LaGrange Hospital. She was born on January 9, 1912 in Lexington, IL to Homer & Bessie (Mae-Poling) Brummett. She married Elmer Hanshew, he preceded her in death.
Violet moved to the area in 1926 coming from Illinois. She had worked as a secretary at Topeka Roller Mill. Violet was a member of Topeka United Methodist Church where she served as the church caretaker for over 50 years. She was also a member of UMW and the Sorosis Club.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Charlene) Hanshew of LaGrange, a grandson, Eric (Jacquelyn) Hanshew of Arizona, and two great-grandchildren, Alexis & Zoe. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one sister, Rosemary.
A funeral service will be held in Violet's honor on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10 AM at Topeka United Methodist Church- 124 West Pine St., Topeka, IN 46571. Pastor Harold Gingerich will officiate. Burial will take place at Eden Cemetery in Topeka.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at the Church.
