He served in Battery D, 334th Field Artillery until Aug 31 1918; American Motor School, Sathonany, France ui 1 Nov 1918; Field Artillery M Training Center, Army Post Office 924, to 24 Dec 1918; Battery A, 324th Field Artillery until his discharge; Wagoner 21 Apr 1918. Meuse-Argonne. American Expeditionary Forces 12 June 1918 to 22 May 1919. Honorable discharge 5 June 1919.9,10 His enlistment record shows he was 21 years 6 months old upon enlistment, his residence being 220 Yellow Spring St., Springfield, Ohio.9,10 On the same date of enlistment his brother Clifford also enlisted.9,10 Their brother Ralph had enlisted in 1914.9
He married Grace E. Crowford11 [Grace Crawford2, Grace E. Bethel11], Oct 4 192211, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio11. Grace, daughter of Barney Bethel & Margaret Kelley, was born about 1895, Galion, Crawford County, Ohio.6,11 (1892).12
Grace had apparently been previously married to a -- Crawford/Crowford.11

He declared he was born May 24, 1895 in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and was then residing at 906 Essig Ct. N.W., Canton, Stark County, Ohio, employed as a foreman with Timkin Roller Bearing Co. of Canton. He declared his relative/contact was Grace Henshaw of the same address. He was recorded as 5'4" tall, 132 lbs., hazel eyes, brown hair, light complexion, and "Small tatoo mark on right arm".7
