He married Polly L. Neal, about 1848.1  Polly, daughter of John N. Neal & Ann Elizabeth Smith, was born 1829, Tennessee.1,2,3,13

Susan Hinshaw, age 63, born in North Carolina.
Also living in Pulaski County, Missouri in 1850 was the family of brother Levi Hinshaw #686114 and sister Elizabeth Hinshaw #5669.15  Note that the Susan Hinshaw above is currently unidentified, but is probably the same as an unidentified Susanna Hinshaw of about the same age who was living in 1860 with the family of sister Elizabeth Hinshaw #5669.

Living next door in 1860 were Polly's parents.16  

During the Civil War John served as a private in Company C, 32nd Texas Cavalry (36th Cavalry, "Woods' Regiment"), from about May 15 1862 to May 20 1864.17,18,19,20  

Polly died 1864, Fairview, Collin County, Texas.13  

He then married Amanda R. Thompson7,8 [Rosa Amanda Thompson4,5,9,13,21, Rosanah A. Thompson9], Mar 31 18647,8, Atascosa County, Texas7,8.  Amanda, daughter of Hiram Lowe Thompson & Louisiana Jackson Dever, was born Jan 28 1844, Texas.4,5,9,11,13

On Jan 20 1908 John Henshaw, age 84, a resident of Bexar County, Texas for 53 years (then residing in San Antonio), applied for a pension under the Texas Confederate Pension Law of 1899.  He declared he had served in Company C, 32nd Cavalry for "about 2 years"; "Don't remember exactly but enlisted about May 15 - 1862 to same time in 1864 when I was discharged on account of disability".  He declared he was "Feeble" due to "My Age".  He declared his owned personal property as "My House worth about One Thousand Dollars".  He declared he had no income and was indigent.  His application was attested by Mrs. P.E. Tollett, age 64, and Wesley Tollett, age 76, who declared they personally knew John Henshaw from about the 15th day of May 1862 to the 20th day of May 1864, and that John had served with Company C, Wood's 32nd Cavalry.  Wesley Tollett said he had served with him in the Confederate Army.  Mrs. P.E. Tollett said she had "lived in the home of the said John Henshaw during the war and visited his Company in Camp and saw him there".  On Mar 24 1908 John's pension application was disapproved due to "not indigent Home $1000".19
