Eula Ophelia Gilchrist
Eula Ophelia (Hinshaw) Gilchrist, 87, of Great Falls, a homemaker, died of natural causes Wednesday at a local nursing home.
Funeral Liturgy is 2:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Another memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Norwalk, Ohio, followed by burial of ashes in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Eula was born Jan. 6, 1922, in Randleman, N.C., the only child of Plenny and Annie (Coffin) Hinshaw. Eula was an excellent student and graduated from Guilford County High School. She met her husband, Harold J Gilchrist, who was stationed in North Carolina. They were married December 13, 1943, in Bainbridge, Ga., where they stayed until his deployment. Eula and Harold resided in New York for nine years and later moved to Ohio, where they raised their five children.
Eula loved to cook and bake, as well as being an exceptional seamstress. She was an avid traveler, reader, fun seeker and enjoyed the company of her family and friends. She was determined to conquer all that was put in front of her, and to live life to the fullest. Eula was an absolute joy to anyone who was fortunate enough to cross her path. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
She endured incredible trials with patience and possessed a quiet strength that served her throughout her life. She will be missed, however her legacy will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her. Most importantly to her family Eula was love, as described in Corinthians 13:4 - Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
Survivors include her son, Harold J. Gilchrist Jr. of Great Falls; daughter Carolyn (Tom) Zaffer of Elyria, Ohio, Patricia Gilchrist and Debra (David) Frey, all of Great Falls, Kathleen Gilchrist of Shelby, Mich.; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 409 13th St. S., Great Falls, MT 59405.
