Virginia Hinshaw Wilks Virginia Hinshaw Wilks passed away on November 7, 2003, at Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village.  A family Memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 12, at 11 a.m. at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Overland Park Chapel, 82nd and Metcalf.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the charity of your choice.  Virginia was born in Kansas City on July 29, 1912, the fifth of five daughters born to Albertha Peacock and William Newton Hinshaw.  Virginia graduated from Westport High School and attended Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts.  She transferred to the University of Missouri in Columbia and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma.  At the University of Missouri in Columbia she met Richard Alonzo Wilks of Sedalia, MO.  They were married on September 7, 1934 in Kansas City, MO.  After residing in the New York and Chicago areas, the family moved to Prairie Village in 1956 where Richard became Group Supervisor for Metropolitan Life.  Virginia was active in the community and served as a Docent at the William Rockhill Nelson Gallery of Art.  She was a Regent of the Westport Chapter of D.A.R., a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association and a member of The Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist.  She and her husband were members of the Carriage Club.  After living in Prairie Village for many years, they moved to Delray Beach, FL, where they lived for 30 years.  While in Florida she was a member of the Delray Beach Club and played tennis several times a week through her 88th year.  She was particularly proud to have received the title of "Most Improved Player" that very year.  In Florida she was also an active member of the Four Arts Society in Palm Beach and continued her involvement with other civic and church activities.  She moved back to Kansas City in the year 2000 and has been a resident of Brighton Gardens.  This past February she was extremely proud that her peers elected her "Valentine Queen".  Her husband, Richard passed away in 1983.  Her survivors include her two daughters, Nancy Smith Lione and her husband, Frederick of Rowayton, Connecticut and Julie Hendricks and her husband, David of Prairie Village, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Christopher Smith and his wife, Lisa, Heather Smith, Theodore Smith and his wife, Laura, and Virginia Smith, Jennifer Sernett and her husband, Timothy, Andrew Hendricks and his wife, Emily, and Timothy Hendricks and his wife, Melissa.  She is survived by 11 greatgrandchildren, Carter, Alexander and Gianni Smith, Margot, Tucker and Crosby Smith, Joe, Jack and Allison Sernett and Quincy and Hayes Hendricks.  She is also survived by four stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Kendall and Michael Gleason, David and Catherine Lione, John and Susan Lione, and Sarah and Edward Zarucha; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Cara and Tess Lione.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village for their devotion to their profession, their genuine concern, and their unlimited patience and love shown toward Virginia and all others in their care.  (Arrangements: D.W.
