John B. Henshaw was shown in the 1887 list of taxpayers in Platte River, Jackson Township, Buchanan County, Missouri.1 He is again shown in the 1889 and 1890 taxpayer lists, same location.1 The same taxpayer lists also show brother Richard as well as an unidentified A.B. Henshaw1 (perhaps their father),6 and also an unidentified Fred Washington Henshaw of St. Joseph, Buchanan County (1890).1
John A. Henshaw was shown in an 1888 city directory of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri, where he was listed as a clerk with "Schultz-Nestel Dry Goods and Norion company", with his residence at 1118 Francis.4 Again in 1890 John Henshaw was shown in a St. Joseph city directory, where he was listed as proprietor of "City Dye works" at 220 S. 5th.4 Also listed in the St. Joseph city directories of 1887-1890 were brother J. Richard Henshaw, a Mrs. Bridget Henshaw, brother Allen Henshaw, brotherThomas Henshaw, and a Joseph A. Henshaw (shown in 1887 as a clerk at 1118 Francis4 - possibly this was actually John).
John and brother Thomas were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 9-10 1900), Crawford Township, Buchanan County, Missouri:5
Henshaw, John, head-of-household, age 38, born May 1862 in Missouri; father born in Missouri; mother born in Indiana; single; occupation: farming; rented farm.
Henshaw, Thomas, brother, age 43, born July 1856 in Missouri; father born in Missouri; mother born in Indiana; single; occupation: farming.
John Henshaw was shown in the 1902 directory of residents in Faucett, Crawford Township, Buchanan County, Missouri.7 J.B. Henshaw was again shown in the 1904 and 1905 direcories,7 and again as John B. Henshaw in 1906.7 The same directories (1904-1906, same location) show brother Thomas Henshaw.
John was shown in the 1920 census (Jan 7 1920), still single, living in Jackson Township, Buchanan County, Missouri:8
Henshaw, John, head-of-household, age 58, born in Missouri; father born in Missouri; mother born in Indiana; single; rented home; occupation: farm laborer, working out.
Neavez [unclear], Jane [unclear], niece, age 16, born in Missouri; parents born in Missouri.
