Nelson and family were shown in the 1900 census (Jun 1900), Lynn, Randolph County, Indiana:^c

He then married Venora A. Clevenger, Jul 31 1907, Randolph County, Indiana.⁴⁷    (Venora A. Mosier)^h    (Verna Mosier)^i,j    Venora, daughter of Walter Mosier & Manerva "Minnie" Parker, was born about 1868, Indiana.^h,j,e,f    Venora was a widow - she had been previously married to James Madison Clevenger on Oct 31 1891,^h,k by whom she had six children.^l,e

Nelson's obituary was published in the New Castle Courier Times (New Castle, Indiana) on Monday, July 2, 1934:^l

Nelson Hinshaw is Dead Funeral Services To Be Held Tuesday Afternoon. Nelson Hinshaw, 72 years old, died Saturday evening at his home, 2415 South Fourteenth Street, New Castle, Indiana.    Besides the widow he is survived by six children, Mrs. Lydia Durham of Marion, Ohio, Herschel Hinshaw of Westwood, Vernon Hinshaw of Kennard, Mrs Anna Cook, Mrs. Gladys Bittner and Ernest Hinshaw of New Castle.    Twenty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive as well as six step-children, Mrs. Linnie Thomas of Indianapolis, Charles Clevenger of Kennard, Mrs. Nora Dinkins, Mrs. Lydia Porter, Walter Clevenger and Mrs. James Clevenger of New Castle. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Centenary M.E. church at Cherrywood and J avenues.    Interment will be made in Soundmound cemetery in New Castle.
