Charles Lee Fanning and his older brother Robert Samuel were raised by their mother, Nancy Ada (Armstrong) Fanning, and her 2nd husband, Henry Hollis Fanning, a younger brother to her first husband, Milton Riley Fanning.⁵

Nancy and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 11 1930), Franklin County, Tennessee:⁷

Charles died Aug 27 1968, Franklin County, Tennessee; buried Mt. Garner Cemetery, Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee.^4,5
