Fate John Henshaw
Falls from Ledge

John Henshaw, aged only 21 and only entering upon life's duties, was killed at the Johnson Stone Quarry while at work, by falling from a 20-foot ledge, yesterday.

Young Henshaw was assisting to operate a channeling machine which had been backed to the edge of the ledge.  In reversing the machine, standing on the very edge of the bluff, Henshaw lost his balance and fell to the lower floor 20 feet below, striking on his head and shoulders.  Friends hurried to his assistance, but it was evident that the awful fall would be fatal as he lay in an unconscious condition.  He was made as comfortable as possible until the arrival of Drs. Vermilya and Schaffer, when examination showed that the skull was crushed on the right side directly over the ear and the shoulder and collar bones were bruised, splintered and broken.  The young man was taken to his home where he died without having regained consciousness 5 hours later.

John Henshaw was 21 years old, son of Samuel Henshaw, who resides on the Showers farm two miles southeast of town, and was well known in the city.  Until last spring he drove a dairy wagon for his father.  He was an exemplary young man, a member of Company H, and his many frineds are shocked by his unexpected and horrible death.

Funeral at the home at 1 o'clock tomorrow and Company H members will attend in a body escorting the remains to the 3:15 train to be taken to New Albany for burial.
