On Sep 12 1918 Thomas Alfred Hinshaw, age 19, registered for the World War I draft in Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina. He declared he was born March 2 1899 and he was then residing in Randleman, North Carolina where he was a farm hand employed by his father, Jos. Hinshaw. He declared his nearest relative was Joseph D. Hinshaw of Randleman. He was recorded as tall, slender, light blue eyes, light brown hair. Although the name field of the draft card was handwritten as "Thomas Alfred Hinshaw", he signed the card as "Thomas Alford Hinshaw".3
