Auto accident shock is fatal. - Hastens death of Joseph Hinshaw, aged resident of Jay county.
Portland, Indiana, April 2. --- An automobile accident in front of his home a mile west of Flat at noon Monday, resulted fatally at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning for Joseph Hinshaw. Shock suffered in the crash is blamed for hastening his death from organic heart trouble with which he had been afflicted for several months.
Mr. Hinshaw, who was 73 years of age, and his wife were occupants of a car driven by Marion Pugh of Hartford City, from which place they were returning from a visit. As Mr. Pugh turned his auto into the Hinshaw home drive, it was struck by a machine driven by Mrs. Clyde H. Brown, of Montpelier, R. R. 1, a Jay Garment company employee, who was hurrying from Portland to the Hartford City hospital, where her husband had been taken for an operation. The Pugh car was overturned twice and the driver and his aged passenger were badly shaken up.
Mr. Hinshaw was a native of Randolph county, having been born near Snow Hill. With his parents he moved to Blackford county when he was 15 years old. After his marriage to Mrs. Cerrelda Shusher, he lived for 15 years in Randolph county and then came to Penn township, where they since resided. Surviving, besides the widow, are a son, Ray Hinshaw, of Waynedale, Allen county; two grandchildren and a sister, Hettie, wife of Perry Cline, of Penn township.
Funeral services will be held at the Flat Friends church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. Ray Bouse. Burial will be in the I. O. O. F. cemetery, Pennville.
