She married David Richard Eckel.1,6  David, son of Howard Eckel & Edith Vance, was born Apr 14 1921, Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.7,8,9,10

During World War II Betty attended Ball State Teachers College and roomed with Virginia Eckel.  Betty met Virginiaís brother, David, when he came to visit before going to fight in Europe.  They corresponded throughout the war and were married when he returned stateside.  He was married in uniform and she wore a dress that she made from a silk parachute.7  

On Sep 19 1942 David R. Eckel, born 1921 in Indiana, then a resident of Montgomery County, Ohio, had enlisted at Cincinnati, Ohio as a Private in the U.S. Army.  He declared he had one year of college, was then single, without dependents, and was recorded as 71" tall, 151 lbs.12  

The family moved to New Cumberland, Pennsylvania in 1953 when Davidís job was transferred to Olmstead Air Force base.  Betty taught art at Manor and Hillside Elementary schools for many years.7  

David died Apr 6 1968, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; age 46.7,8,10  

David's obituary was published in the "Anderson Daily Bulletin" (Anderson, Indiana) on Monday, April 8, 196810 (see scan below).  

In 1981 Betty was still living in/near New Cumberland, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.2  

Betty Marcella Hinshaw died Aug - 1981, buried Maplewood Cemetery, 200 College Drive, Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.1,2,5
