The following biography appeared in the book "History of the Carter Family", pages 57-61, a contemporary (1924-1928) family history:2
"Myrtle Hinshaw, daughter of Elza and Mary E. Hinshaw, is an honorable member of the family and a highly respected member of the community. She was born Nov. 15, 1885. Myrtle received the best education obtainable in the district schools and was married on June 29, 1903 to Clayton E. Martin, a professional carpenter and contractor, a man strong in character and physique. They have two fine children namely Charlie and Claribel. They own property and live in Lynn, Indiana."
In 1942 Myrtle was living in Lynn, Randolph County, Indiana.4
