Fred's family had come to Greensfork Township in October, 1814. They had been the fourth settlers of Randolph County, Indiana, and built their homes just east of the Indiana boundary of 1795. The land at that time was the highest point in Indiana.2

He declared his relative/contact was Ester Bowen of the same address. He was recorded as 5'8" tall, 185 lbs., gray eyes, brown hair, light complexion.7
