Wilbur died Sep 29 1997, Medicalodge East, Arkansas City, Cowley County, Kansas; buried Highland Cemetery, Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas.4,5

Wilbur Braden

ARKANSAS CITY - Wilbur A. Braden, 85, of 501 N. B in Arkansas City, formerly of Winfield and South Haven, died Sept. 29, 1997, at Medicalodge East in Arkansas City.  

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield.  

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday.  

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.  Contributions can be made through the funeral home.  

Braden was born April 14, 1912, at Norfolk, Neb., to William J. and Myrtle (Karo) Braden.  Raised and educated in Nebraska and Iowa, he was a 1931 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  

A veteran of World War II, he served as a petty officer with the U.S. Navy Special Services from 1942 to 1944.  Following discharge, he attended California colleges and received a degree in education.  

On July 18, 1948, he married Ida Jane Hinshaw in Sacramento, Calif., and they lived in California for many years.  He taught mathematics in Stockton, Calif., schools for nearly 25 years.  

Following retirement, the Bradens moved to Winfield in the 1970s and to South Haven in 1986.  She died Nov. 20, 1988.  He had resided in Arkansas City for the past several years.  

A member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Arkansas City, Braden had also been affiliated with California and national education associations.  

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
