On Jun 5 1917 Burton Hall Henshaw, age 23, registered for the World War I draft in St. Louis, Missouri.    He declared he was born Nov. 3 1893 in Grainger County, Tennessee, and he was then residing at 2115 Elm Ave., Wellstone, Missouri where he was single and a sign painter employed by the F.R. Rice Cigar Co. of St. Louis.    He was recorded as medium height, medium build, light brown eyes, black hair.^g

During World War I Burton was inducted into the army at St. Louis, Missouri on Dec 22 1917 (Army serial number 304,331).    He was recorded born Nov 3 1893 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and his residence at the time of induction was Wellston, Missouri.    He served overseas from Mar 27 1918 to Jul 4 1919.    Wounded Oct 4 1918.    His service record shows the following service organization and assignments:^c
