Obstetrician will see patients here Expectant Laurel mothers can receive pre-natal care at Laurel Medical Center again. Three weeks ago, Dr. James C. Hinshaw, M.D., began seeing Laurel pre-natal patients.
He is scheduled to be in Laurel each Friday morning to see patients. To schedule an appointment to see him in Laurel call the Laurel Medical Center at 628-6311.
Dr. Hinshaw moved to Billings about a year ago. He provides comprehensive gynecological exams, pre-natal care, consultations, surgical procedures and second opinions. He is board certified by the American Board.
Hinshaw was raised in Beaumont, TX, near the Louisiana border. He received an undergraduate degree in pre-medicine from Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX and attended the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Hinshaw completed his residency at the University of Kansas Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
After practicing medicine for 15 years at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, Hinshaw relocated to Billings. He operates an independent practice and has medical privileges at both Deaconess Medical Center and St. Vincent Medical Center and can deliver babies at either location.
Dr. Hinshaw recommends that expectant mothers should seek pre-natal care as soon as they suspect they are pregnant so they can begin taking dietary supplements to help ensure they will deliver a healthy baby.
A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks; however, a premature baby can survive after just 23 weeks. "Each additional week provides a better chance of giving birth to a healthy child," he noted. Dr. Hinshaw is also able to do a surgical cesarean-section procedure when necessary to deliver a child. As a "solo practitioner" Hinshaw delivers babies of 85 percent of his patients, with the exception of weekend calls.
