Maxine's obituary was published as follows:1
Maxine Hofstra, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 19th, at Garden Valley Manor.
She was born in Moulton, Iowa to Ross and Mayme Henshaw. After a short time in Moulton the family moved to Leavenworth where she grew up with 8 siblings.
She married Richard Hofstra on July 2, 1938 in Leavenworth. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1988. Maxine retired from the First National Bank and was a member of the Pilgrim United Church of Christ. She also volunteered for many years at Cushing Memorial Hospital.
Maxine was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, sister: Christine Ketterman; 3 brothers: Jim, Russell & Raymond Henshaw.
She is survived by her 3 children: Gary Hofstra, wife Joyce of Louisburg, Kansas, Barbara Elling, husband David of Weatherby Lake, Missouri and Jack Hofstra, wife Sally of Wexford, Pennsylvania; 2 sisters: Marian Ketterman of Dallas, TX and Kathryn Price of Melvin, KS; 2 brothers: John Henshaw of Leavenworth and Robert Henshaw of Kansas City, KS; she was a proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
