On May 14 1901 Herman Hincher enlisted in the 13th Cavalry, U.S. Army, at Rochester, New York for a period of three years.  He declared he was age 21 years 10 months, born in Hilton, New York, employed as a laborer.  He was recorded as 5'9" tall, brown eyes, dark brown hair, ruddy complexion.8  Herman fought in the Spanish-American War.9,10  He was discharged May 13 1904 at the Presidio, San Francisco, California.8  

Herman was shown in the 1910 census (Apr 20 1910), living alone in Point Arena, Mendocino County, California:7

Hincher, Herman, head-of-household, age 26, born in New York; parents born in New York; single; occupation: laborer, odd jobs.

He married Christina Christinsia, Jul 19 1910.2  Christina, daughter of - Christinsia & - Anderson, was born Nov 8 1881, California.1,3,5  

On Sep 12 1918 Herman Hincher, age 35, registered for the World War I draft in Mendocino County, California.  He declared he was born July 1 1883, and was then residing at Fort Bragg, California where he was a woodsman employed by the Union Lumber Co. of Fort Bragg.  He declared his nearest relative was Mrs. C. Hincher of Fort Bragg.  He was recorded as tall, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair.6

Herman and Christina were divorced.11  Christina remarried to a James H. Howard.3  

Herman was shown in the 1930 census, living/staying in a rooming house at 326 Main Street, Fort Bragg, Mendocino County, California:11

Christina and family were shown in the 1930 census, Rhine Street, Alturas, Modoc County, California:3
Howard, James H., head-of-household, age 50, born in New York; parents born in New York; first married at age 27; rented home ($30 rent); no radio in home; occupation: contractor, concrete work; not a war veteran.
Howard, Christina, wife, age 48, born in California; parents born in Denmark; first married at age 20.
Hincher, Harvey W., step son, age 17, born in California; father born in New York; mother born in California; occupation: pipe layer, city sewer system.

Herman Hincher died Apr 18 1936, buried Apr 21 1936, Section DE, Site 332, San Francisco National Cemetery, 1 Lincoln Blvd., Presidio, San Francisco, California.9,10  

Christina died Mar 31 1963, Mendocino County, California.5
