On Sep 28 1943 Sheldon W. Hancher, born 1924 in Pennsylvania, enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as a Private in the U.S. Army. He declared he had a grammar school education, was married, and occupied in farming.⁵

He then married Pauline Leshuk, May 16 1953, Elm Grove Lutheran Church, West Virginia.⁴ Pauline was born Mar 18 1928, Blough, Pennsylvania Hiram V. Chadwick Jr. & Mary Belle Ealy.^3,6,7
