Mildred Norris SPRINGFIELD - The funeral will be held June 26 for Mildred Marie Norris of Springfield, who died June 20 of cancer. She was 87.
Norris was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Dallas, Ore., to Cleveland and Burleigh Lane Hinshaw, descendants of Oregon pioneer settlers. She married Willis Norris in Vancouver, Wash., on March 27, 1934. He died Oct. 19, 1994.
She was a cheerleader and played basketball in high school. She moved to this area in 1948. She was a homemaker, and she enjoyed genealogy, gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and attending family reunions. Her interests included raising African violets, and her plants won several blue ribbons at the Lane County Fair. She was a member of the Salvation Army Home League, the Eugene Eagles Lodge 275 and the Fuchsia Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Pauline Hadden and Nancy Love, both of Springfield; a son, Charles of Springfield; two brothers, O.C. "Bud" Hinshaw of Eugene and Howard Hinshaw of Crabtree; two sisters, Evelyn Hathaway of Sweet Home and Charlotte Bates of Keizer; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A grandson, Dale Stoneberg, died in 1963, and a daughter, Shirley Stoneberg-Taylor, died April 24, 2003.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by the funeral at 3 p.m., on Thursday at the Wayside Open Bible Chapel in Springfield. Burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
