On Sep 12 1918 Edward Early Chapman, age 42, registered for the World War I draft in Madison County, Virginia.  He declared he was born Nov. 1st 1875, and was then residing in Criglersville, Madison County, Virginia where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was Mrs. Grace Chapman of Criglersville.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, dark eyes, dark hair.9
