Elsie's obituary was published as follows:1

Elsie Hanshew Anderson, age 87, of Wytheville, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.  Mrs. Anderson was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late William W. and May Atwell Hanshew.  She was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church and had been a seamstress in the Wythe County area since the mid-1950s.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Anderson; a sister, Kate Rich; and two brothers, Tom and Donald Hanshew.  Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Joe and Lynnette Anderson of Decatur, Ga.; three sisters, Bessie Kincer of Bristol, Tenn., Ollie Atwell of Wytheville, and Viola Anderson of Rural Retreat; three nieces, Shirley Anderson Slagle of Rural Retreat, Neta Kincer Seneker and Eleanor Kincer Smith, both of Bristol, Tenn.; one nephew, William "Bill" Rich Jr., Roanoke; sister-in-law, Evelyn Hanshew of Florida.  Funeral services were held Friday, April 6, at 11 a.m. at the Wytheville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Barry Losey officiating.  Interment followed in the West End Cemetery.  Barnett's Funeral Home in Wytheville was in charge of arrangements.
