Born Oct 20 1873, Sewell Mountain, Fayette County, West Virginia.4,7,9,13,17,18,19,20,21  (Oct 20 1871).15  

He married Louisa Callie Bottomley, Dec 25 1893, Fayette County, West Virginia.1,22,23  Louisa, daughter of James P. Bottomley & Minerva Jane Hanshew, was born about 1877, West Virginia.23,24  (c1874).22  Daniel and Louisa were first cousins once removed.  

Louisa died before May 2 1900.25  

Daniel's daughter Ira was shown in the 1900 census as a grandchild living in the household of Louisa's widowed mother, Minerva Jane (Hanshew) Bottomley.26  

He then married Mary Ottie Propst6,25 [Otie Propst4, Otey Propst12, Mary O. Propps7], May 2 19006,25, Sewell Mountain, Fayette County, West Virginia6,25.  Mary, daughter of Albert + Margaret Propst, was born about 1878, Cliffty, Fayette County, West Virginia.4,7,25

On Sep 12 1918 Daniel Franklin Handshew, age 44, registered for the World War I draft in Fayette County, West Virginia.  He declared he was born Oct 20 1873, and he was then living in Pittman, Fayette County, West Virginia, where he was a self-employed farmer.  He declared his nearest relative was his wife Etta Handshew of the same address.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, brown & grey hair.18
