Born Jul 19 1874, Coalport (aka Middleport), near Pomeroy, Meigs County, Ohio.1,2,3,4
John became a medical doctor and in 1899 was living in Vienna, Trumbull County, Ohio when he was mixing chemicals and was seriously injured in an explosion. He lost a hand and a eye. The entire event was reported in a Sharon, Pennsylvania newspaper.5
He married Mabel Florentina Suhr, Jun 19 1912, Stark County, Ohio.1,3,6 Mabel, daughter of Henry Suhr & Barbara Zepp, was born about 1878, Ohio.1,3
John and Mabel were married by John's father, Rev. George Henshaw.3
On Sep 12 1918 John Cullen Henshaw, age 44, registered for the World War I draft in Trumbull County, Ohio. He declared he was born July 19 1874, and was then residing at 110 N. Chestnut St., Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio, a self-employed doctor. He declared his nearest relative was Mabel Florence Henshaw of the same address. He was recorded as medium height, medium build, brown eyes, dark hair, and [..unclear..] of right arm at wrist.4
In 1925 John was the county coroner of Trumbull County, Ohio.7
John and family were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 17 1930), 538 Kenilworth Avenue SW, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio:1
Henshaw, John C., head-of-household, age 56, born in Ohio; father born in England; mother born in Wales; first married at age 38; owned home ($8000 value); radio in home; occupation: doctor, medicine; not a veteran.
Henshaw, Mabel, wife, age 52, born in Ohio; father born in Germany; mother born in Ohio; first married at age 34.
A church program (First Presbyterian Church, Warren, Ohio) dated Sunday, June 22, 1847 included the following:6
The Sympathy of our church is extended to Mrs. J. C. Henshaw in the loss of her brother, Mr. Carl F. Suhr of Youngstown, on June 17th.
