On Jun 5 1917 Vance Hinshaw, age 30, registered for the World War I draft in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas.  He declared he was born June 24 1886 in Havensville, Kansas, and was then residing at 630 Lawrence St. in Topeka, married with two children, occupied as a "car carpenter" employed by the Santa Fe R.R. Company.  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark brown hair.5
