Nicholas grew up near Winchester, Virginia.133

He served in the Revolutionary War.a

In 1789, at the age of 26, Nicholas left the Shenandoah valley and patented 255 acres of land in North Union township (then Readstone township), Fayette County, Pennsylvania.    There he cleared a farm and lived there for the rest of his life.133

He married Margaret McConnel.133,145    Margaret was born in 1753, Virginia.133,78

Note that Nicholas' brother Levi married Ann McConnell,69,70,133 and his other brother Hiram married Mary McConnell1,69,70,132,133 (sisters??).    [and also: a James Henshaw married a Margaret McConnell in 1818].

Nicholas had written his will Jan 5 1818; it was probated Mar 17 1821 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.l    In his will he named:l

children of my daughter Mary Stockdale deceased, two females at 18, two males at 21;
daughters Nancy, Rebecca;
grandson Nicholas at 21;
granddaughters Margaret Better, Margaret Reed;
witnesses Doc. Daniel Sturgeon, Morris Morris
executors William Handshaw, D. Ewing, Morris Morris (renounced 3-17-1821)
