Martha had been previously married to George Sultan Dobay Mar 26 1903, Manhattan, New York, New York,4,5,13 (apparently divorced), by whom she had children George Robert Dobay and Dorothy Irene Dobay.4,5
On Aug 15 1918 John Henry Hinshaw, age 27, registered for the World War I draft for Hardin County, Iowa, signed and notorized in Saskatchewan. He declared he was born May 7 1891 in Hubbard, Iowa, and was then residing at 336 Fairford St. West, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He declared he had a wife and two children, Irene age 4 and Geraldine age 2 months. He was recorded as tall, slender, blue-grey eyes, light brown hair. He claimes an exemption due to "family support and financial con.".3
