Phillip was shown in the 1910 census (Apr 18 1910), living in (or staying in) a boarding house at 116 East 62nd Street, Seattle, King County, Washington:⁷

He married Ruth Elizabeth Sroufe.^1,2  Ruth was born about 1890, Washington.¹  

On Jun 5 1917 Philip McKenney Hinchey, age 28, registered for the World War I in Oak Lake Precinct, King County, Washington.  He declared he was born September 25th 1889 in Greenville County, Virginia, and was then residing in Seattle, Washington where he had a wife and two children, a machinist employed by Seattle Drydock & Construction Co. of Seattle.  He declared he had three years of military experience as a corporal in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery.  He claimed an exemption due to "three dependents, physical disability".  He was recorded as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, dark brown hair.³

On Apr 26 1942 Philip McKenney Hinchey, age 52, registered for the World War II draft in San Francisco, California.  He declared he was born Sept. 25, 1889 in Emporia, Virginia, and was then residing at 35 Laskie St., San Francisco (mailing address: Musician's Union, 230 Jones), and was employed by the Yellow Cab Co. of San Francisco.  Where a relative/contact person is to be declared, he recorded only "none".  He was recorded as 5'9" tall, 185 lbs., gray eyes, brown hair, light complexion.⁴
