David graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).5  

During World War II David served in the U.S. Navy as a radar operator aboard the Destroyer U.S.S. Pringle.5  

He married Evelyn Elizabeth Wattam, Dec 19 1959, Anaheim, Orange County, California.1,2  Evelyn was born Dec 15 1916, North Dakota.1  

David retired from the University of California Department of Agriculture Extension.5  

David Wesley Hinshaw died Apr 8 2007, San Diego, San Diego County, California; age 80.4

HINSHAW, DAVID WESLEY

David Wesley Hinshaw, 80, was born September 20, 1926, in Culver City, CA.  He died April 8, 2007, in San Diego, CA.  David leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Evelyn Wattam Hinshaw, brother William U. Hinshaw of Fair Oaks, and numerous relatives and friends.  David, a World War II Navy Veteran, served as a Radar Operator on the Destroyer, The U.S.S. Pringle.  He was one of 258 survivors of a Kamikaze (Ohka) attack which sank the Pringle in six short minutes on April 16, 1945.  David is credited with giving away his life preserver and treading water for three hours after the Pringle slid beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean near Okinawa.  A resident of San Diego for over 49 years, David worked as Farm Adviser for San Diego and Imperial Counties.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2007, at 1:30 p.m.  The service shall be located at Saint David's Episcopal Church, 5050 Milton Street in San Diego.  Friends and family are invited to this celebration of his life.  Fellowship time will follow the memorial service.  Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
