BLOOMINGTON - Jerome Anthony "Jerry" Hinshaw, 46, of Bloomington, passed away Thursday (Dec. 11, 2008) at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.  

His memorial mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at St. Mary's Church, with Rev. Ric Schneider officiating.  Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bloomington.  He was cremated.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington with a prayer service at 7 p.m.  

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Ruth Hinshaw.  

Jerry was born Oct. 30, 1962 in Bloomington, the son of C. Deane and Ruth Julian Hinshaw.  

He is survived by his father; five brothers, Joseph Hinshaw, Tempe, Ariz., George (Cynthia) Hinshaw, Normal, Edward (Angie) Hinshaw, Donald Hinshaw, and Jim Hinshaw, all of Bloomington; four sisters, Ruth (Doug) Smith, Mesa Ariz., Nancy (Bernie) Feldman, Syracuse N.Y., Jane Wimp and Karen Hinshaw, both of Bloomington; seven nieces, Amanda, Tess, Dana, Sarah, Christina, Jessica and Trish; 15 nephews, Parker, Cody, Ryan, Deane, Justin, Matt, Chad, Gage, Michael, Jimmy, Joseph, James, Jonathon, Steven and Austin; and one great-niece, Elizabeth.  

Jerry had worked in the restaurant business since graduating from high school in 1980.  He was employed at Steak N Shake Restaurants for 24 years, starting as an assistant manager.  After a long time as district manager throughout Illinois and Wisconsin, he returned to Bloomington as a general manager at the Steak N Shake on Commerce Drive.  After leaving Steak N Shake in June 2008, Jerry was looking forward to and planning on opening his first restaurant in the Spring of 2009.  

Jerry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed collecting memorabilia.  He loved to shoot pool and golf with his friends.  He was also a car enthusiast who hosted many car shows at Steak N Shake.  Jerry was creative and enjoyed hosting numerous Murder Mystery parties for family and friends.  They will be remembered as very enjoyable and unique experiences.  Jerry will mostly be remembered for his devotion to his family, his comradery and loyalty to his friends and for the respect he earned and gave to all who were acquainted with him.  He helped to bring out the best in people.  He was hard working, intelligent, thoughtful and generous.  He was a good-hearted man, who touched many lives in our community, and to say that he will be greatly missed is an understatement of his importance to us all.
