Gordon "Gordy" Franklin Hinshaw Gordon "Gordy" Franklin Hinshaw, 81, died May 22, 2015, in Kelliher, Minnesota.
Gordy was born in 1933 in Idaho and was raised and educated in Oregon. He lived and spent many years hauling in Idaho and Montana. He went to Alaska during the construction of the Alaska pipeline and was one of the pioneer ice road truckers of the "Haul Road" (Dalton Highway). He lived and drove truck in Alaska for many years, working into his late 70s. He retired and moved to Washington for several years. After retirement he went back to Alaska for one more summer hauling gravel in 2012. After some medical problems he moved into a nursing home in Lewiston, Idaho, and then moved to Minnesota for a short time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, traveling and spending time with friends.
Gordy’s survived by sons, Randy Hinshaw of Wasilla and Rob Hinshaw of Dallas, Oregon; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister, Eileen Way of Moscow, Idaho; many nieces and nephews; special friend Mary Ann Hinshaw of Idaho; and many friends in Alaska, and the Lower 48.
He’s preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Holdridge; and grandson, Ernie Beltran.

Gordon "Gordy" Franklin Hinshaw, 81, died on Friday, May 22, 2015 at Cornerstone Residence in Kelliher, Minnesota. A potluck gathering of friends and family will be held in the afternoon of Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the home of Gordy’s close friends Tim and Barb Freeman, 32440 Corlan Road NE, Blackduck, Minnesota. Inurnment will be in Idaho. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted with arrangements. Gordy was born on July 31, 1933 in Pine, Idaho, the son of William and Esther (Swan) Hinshaw. He was raised in the Monmouth and Independence, Oregon areas where he attended grade and high schools. He graduated from Central High School in 1951, where he lettered in football as a fullback. His senior year he ran a 75 yard touchdown which stood as a record for many years. He started working in the woods with his older brother Bill, running a two man power saw, eventually driving log truck in Idaho. He married, had two boys and a girl, and eventually logged, lived and spent many years hauling logs in Missoula, Montana. He then hauled beer and freight back and forth from Montana and Minnesota. He went to Alaska during the construction of the Alaska pipeline and was one of the pioneer ice road truckers of the "Haul Road" (Dalton Highway). He ended up making Alaska his home off and on for over 30 years where he continued to drive trucks, working into his late 70’s. He retired and moved in with his sister in Clarkston, Washington and lived with her for several years. After retirement he went back to Alaska for one more summer hauling gravel in 2012. After some medical problems he moved into a nursing home in Lewiston, Idaho. He then moved to Blackduck, MN for only a short time and was planning on moving into the Blackduck Senior Apartments, until his health failed and he went to Cornerstone Residence in Kelliher. His favorite past time [sic] was fishing with the people he loved. He also enjoyed hunting, reading, traveling, spending time with friends, camping and anything outdoors. A special thank you goes to Rosa Lossing with Cornerstone Residence and Kelli Waller with the Blackduck Senior Apartments. Gordy is survived and greatly loved by 2 sons, Randy Hinshaw of Wasilla, Alaska and Rob Hinshaw of Dallas, Oregon; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; his sister, Eileen Way of Moscow, Idaho; son-in-law, Kenneth Holdridge of Fort Hill, Oregon; many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Kenny Way; a special friend Mary Ann Hinshaw of Idaho; and many friends in Alaska, Idaho, the Blackduck area, and the lower 48. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terri Holdridge; and a grandson, Ernie Beltran.
