Maude Hinshaw1 [Maude Henkins].

Born Jul 17 1875, Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa.1,2

She married Albert Lincoln Pierce.1  Albert, son of - Pierce & - Obrien, was born Feb 8 1881, California.2  (Feb 8 1882).3

Maude and Albert had been shown in the 1940 census (Apr 5-6 1940), apparently before they were married, 467 Guerrero St., San Francisco, California:4

Pierce, Albert, head-of-household, age 57, born in California; completed 7th grade; on Apr 1 1935 was living in the same house; divorced; occupation: boat builder, building; worked 52 weeks in 1939; $1800 wages in 1939.
Lowry, Maude, maid, age 64, born in Iowa; completed 2 years of high school; on Apr 1 1935 was living in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon; divorced; occupation: maid, private house; worked 6 weeks in 1939; $400 wages in 1939.

Albert died Jun 10 1948, San Francisco, San Francisco County, California; buried Garden Plot, Palm Section, Lot 183, Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, Colma, San Mateo County, California.2,5

In 1956 Maude was living at 386 Vienna Street, San Francisco, California.1

Maude Hinshaw died Jun 16 1956, San Francisco Hospital, 22nd & Potrero Ave., San Francisco, San Francisco County, California; age 81.1,2,5

Maude's obituary was published as follows:1

Pierce -- In this city, June 16, 1956, Maude Pierce, dearly beloved wife of the late Albert Pierce, loving mother of Hillah Davenport, Lee and Gilbert Lowrey, loving grandmother of Darlene Portue, Leon Duffy, William and Leroy Lowrey.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral Monday, June 18, 1956, at 11 a. m. from the Chapel of H. F. Suhr Co., 2919 Mission St. nr. 25th St.  Interment, Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.

Note: The death records of the H. F. Suhr Company funeral home in San Francisco clearly show the parents of Maude Pierce were Benjamin Hinshaw & Maude Henkins; this from the informant, Maude's daughter Hilah (Lowrey) Davenport.1  However this is almost certainly in error - either misinformation from daughter Hilah or mis-recorded by the funeral home.

From the evidence it seems clear that this was Maude Hankens/Hankins, daughter of Thomas B. + Mildred I. Hankins,6 who apparently first married a -- Sexton, by whom she had a son Cecil L. Sexton/Hankins, Jul 1894;7 she then married Charles Lowrey/Lourey, about 18968 and had children Leroy/Lee Lowrey/Henkins, Gilbert Lowrey/Henkins9 and Hilah Lowrey Davenport Cairns.1  She divorced Charles Lowrey and remarried to Albert Pierce, for whom she had been employed in 1940.4

Maude was not a Hinshaw, but is in this database since she was (erroneously) recorded as such in her death record.
