William Richard Henshaw Jr.  
(June 13, 1937 - March 26, 2011)

William R. (Bill) Henshaw Jr., 73, Shallotte, N.C., and formerly of Pipersville, Pa., died peacefully March 26, 2011 at home, surrounded by his loving family.  

William was born June 13, 1937, in Philadelphia, to William Sr. and Delia Stevens.  He married his loving wife, Rose Sperling on September 26, 1959.  Together they raised their family in Pipersville, PA, in a beautiful home designed and built by Bill

William graduated from Lower Moreland High School in Bucks County, PA.  He was a paratrooper in the US Army, and a member of Elks Lodge No. 2679.  He was employed for 31 years by Philadelphia Electric Co., from which he retired, and maintained many cherished lifelong friends.  Bill and Rose retired to Shallotte, NC, where they met many new dear friends.  Bill designed their wonderful home on Goose Creek.  He was also a very talented craftsman who recently built a 14 ft wooden kayak for his family to enjoy.  Surviving in addition to his wife; daughter, Lorraine DiFrancesco, wife of Bruce, Coopersburg, PA, and his three sons, Michael R., husband of Dolly, Oshkosh, WI., Steven W., husband of Teresa, West Lawn, PA., and Glenn I., husband of Kim, Atglen, PA; six loving grandchildren: Nicole, Daniel, Brian, Sam, Ryan, and Adam; and Bill’s special companion "Dixie".  Other survivors include two sisters, Margaret McMenamin, Warminster, Pa., and Barbara Souder, Perkasie, Pa.  

A memorial service to celebrate William’s life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Elks Lodge, 937 Carter Drive, Calabash, N.C.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice- Brunswick Co. Care Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
