He married Gail McQuain, about 1972.2  

Gary Lee Hanshew died Dec 19 2013, Green Sulphur Springs, Summers County, West Virginia; buried Wallace Memorial Cemetery, 16155 Midland Trail West, Crawley, Greenbrier County, West Virginia.2  

Gary's obituary was published in the "Fayette Tribune" on December 25, 2013:2

Gary Lee Hanshew, 65, of Green Sulphur Springs, died Dec. 19, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, following a short battle with cancer.  

Born April 28, 1948, at Danese, he was the son of Lillian Shuck Hanshew of Green Sulphur Springs and the late Roy P. Hanshew.  

Gary graduated from Meadow Bridge High School in 1966 and was of the Baptist faith.  

He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea CV-43 in the Viet Nam War.  

Following his service in the Navy, he went to work as a coal miner for 13 years.  He then was an electrician for Meadow Gold Dairy for 5 years and retired after 16 years as an electrician for U.S. Can.  

He was a member of V.F.W. Post #6506 in Rosedale, Md., and a member of the Jeptah Masonic Lodge #222 in Essex, Md.  

Upon his retirement, Gary came home to the West Virginia hills he loved.  

Surviving, in addition to his mother: his loving wife of 41 years, Gail McQuain Hanshew; three sons of whom Gary was so proud, Kevin (Rosa) of Lincoln, Del., Mike (Debbie) of Meadow Bridge and Patrick (Alicia) of Green Sulphur Springs; daughter, Barbie Coffie of North Carolina; brothers, Roy (Audrey) of Danese and Chris (Ersie) of Green Sulphur Springs; sisters, Marge Parker of Orlando, Fla., and Carol Moore (John) of Danese; and grandchildren Whitley, Evan, Mike, John, Jacob, Johnathan and Cody.  

Services were Dec. 23, at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Inc., with Jimmy Fleshman officiating.  Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.  Military honors were conducted by the American Legion Post #32 in Beckley.
