William fought in Florida during the Indian wars from Oct 1837 to Apr 10 1838.^b

He married Mary Lambertson.^d

On May 20 1831 William Henshaw acquired 79.99 acres of land in Jackson County, Alabama, recorded at the Huntsville land office.    The land patent described him as "William Henshaw of Jackson County, Alabama".^e

On Sep 10 1834 William Hinshaw acquired 40 acres of land in Alabama, recorded at the Huntsville land office.    The land patent described him as "William Hinshaw of Jackson County, Alabama".^f

William Hinshaw and family were shown in the 1840 census, Jackson County, Alabama:^g

Mary died Oct - 1841.^b

He then married Nancy E. Roberson, May 2 1844, Franklin County, Tennessee.^45,107,h,i,j    Marriage performed by A.J. Steel, M.G.^h,k    Nancy, daughter of James W. Robertson, Sr. & Mary -, was born Jun 11 1821, Tennessee.^l,107,k,m    (Jun - 1823).^n,o

William and family were shown in the 1850 census (Nov 27 1850), Jackson County, Alabama:^a,p

William was also listed in the 1850 Slave Schedule with the following slaves:^q

William's gravestone is imprinted "Borned 1800", yet the 1850 Jackson County census shows him age 38 (born in TN), which would have made him born c1812.¹⁰⁷    And William's wife Nancy applied for a widow's pension in the 1860s, where she shows his birth as 1812, Tennessee.^b

Nancy's pension application was witnessed by five people, including nephew George Washington Hinshaw.    In his statement, George noted that William and Nancy were upstanding members of the community of Estill Fork, Alabama.^b

Nancy never remarried.^b

Widow Nancy and family were again shown in the 1860 census, Jackson County, Alabama:^u

Widow Nancy was shown in the 1880 census (Jun 3 1880), living in the household of her son, James in Jackson County, Alabama:^z

Nancy's gravestone is imprinted "Borned .. 1821", yet the 1850 census showed her as age 27 (born in Tennessee), which would have made her born about 1823.¹⁰⁷    The 1900 Jackson County census showed Nancy E. Hinshaw born June 1823.^aa

William and Nancy are buried in the Sam Hinshaw Cemetery, Estillfork, Jackson County, Alabama.    A stone house covers their graves as well as those of James Walker Robertson, Jr. and his wife Susan Farris (the stone house was built by a B.R. Sanders, probably in the early 1900s).^ab

William and his brother Thomas were reportedly responsible for starting the first Methodist Church in Jackson County, Alabama.^c

Note that Martha #2146 was likely not the actual daughter of William & Nancy as they had another daughter named Martha #2142.    Martha #2146 may have been William's sister or another relative.
