Elizabeth Jane Hinshaw^{1,2,3,4,5,6,7} [Jennie Hinshaw⁸].

Born Sep 26 1848, Martin County, Indiana.^{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9}  

After her father died when she was about 4 years old, Elizabeth was taken under guardianship by her uncle Arthur D. Hastings, husband (and apparently widower) of Elizabeth's aunt, Mary "Polly" (White) Hastings.  On Dec 20 1854, Martin County, Indiana, Arthur D. Hastings was named guardian of Elizabeth Jane Hinshaw, minor heir of John Hinshaw.¹⁰  Again on Jul 12 1865, A.D. Hastings was noted as guardian of Elizabeth Jane Hinshaw.¹⁰  

Elizabeth was shown in the 1860 census (Aug 3 1860), Martin County, Indiana, living in the Arthur Hastings household:^2,7

E.J. Hinshaw was shown in a Mar 10 1861 membership ledger of Port Williams Christian Church, Lawrence County, Indiana.  Also shown in the church membership were A.D. & Polly Hastings, and also Elizabeth's brothers A.D. Hinshaw and Wm H. Hinshaw.¹¹  

On Aug 11 1862 Arthur D. Hastings, of Trinity Springs, enlisted as a Captain in Company F, 65th Indiana Infantry.  He resigned with a disability on May 11 1865.¹²  

She married Campbell Mathes⁸ [Zachariah C. Mathes^4,13], May 30 1865⁸, St. Louis, Missouri⁸.  Campbell, son of James M. Mathes & Sophia Glover^4,5,6, was born May - 1841^4,5,6 [about 1840^3,13], Indiana^4,5,6.  

"The Bedford Independent" (Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana) reported on Wednesday, June 7, 1865:^8,14

MARRIED.  On the 30th ult., at St. Louis, Mo., by the Rev. John WHITE, Mr. Campbell MATHES to Miss Jennie HINSHAW, of Martin county.  It will be seen by the above, that the elopement referred to last week was quite successful.  We trust neither party may regret the step thus taken.

Campbell died Jun 11 1925, San Diego County, California; age 67.¹⁹
