Born about 1816, North Carolina.1
He married Mary Roberts.4 Mary, daughter of John Roberts, was born about 1824, Tennessee.1,2,5,6
A family that seems to be this Hinchy family was shown in the 1850 census, Hickman County, Kentucky:6
N. [unclear] Hinchey, female [sic] age 35, born in North Carolina; farmer; cannot read or write.
M. Hinchey, female age 26, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
There is a puzzling aspect of this 1850 census entry: There seems to be no male head-of-household (unless the first person shown might have been erroneously listed as female). The two children shown are also unidentified. But this is the only Hinchy (or variant) family living in Hickman County, Kentucky in 1850, and son John George Ramzery Hinchey is known to have been born there in 1853 (so it is likely this was probably his family).
The 1850 census shows living next door was the family of S. Roberts (female age 47, Tennessee).7 Also just two households away was the family of Henry C. Roberts (male age 25, Tennessee).8 It is unknown how these Roberts families were connected with Mary Roberts, but it seems likely they were closely related.
Nathan and family were shown in the 1860 census (Jul 10 1860), Columbus District, Hickman County, Kentucky:1
Nathan Hinchie, age 44, born in North Carolina; farmer; $200 personal property; cannot read or write.
Mary Hinchie, age 35, born in Tennessee; cannot read or write.
Wesley Hinchie, age 46, born in North Carolina; cannot read or write.
Wesley Hinchie above is currently unidentified, but from his age it is likely that he was Nathan's brother.9
Mary (apparently widowed) and children were shown in the 1870 census (Jun 22 1870), Columbus District, Hickman County, Kentucky:2
Hinchy, Mary, age 47, born in Tennessee; keeping house.
[..surname unclear..], S [unclear]>, white male, age 17, born in Kentucky; laborer.
", Mary>, white female, age 13, born in Kentucky.
Widow Mary and children were shown in the 1880 census (Jun 8 1880), Columbus District, Hickman County, Kentucky:3
Hinchey, Mary, age 50, born in Tennessee; farmer; cannot read or write.
Hinchey, Mary, daughter, age 22, born in Kentucky; cannot read or write.
Hinchey, James, son, age 20, born in Kentucky; farm hand; cannot read or write.
Hinchey, Alice, daughter, age 17, born in Kentucky; cannot read or write.
