Born about 1858, North Carolina.a
Cath was shown at age two in the 1860 census with the family of Patterson & Rebecca Hinchey.a But she was probably not their child, and was more likely a grandchild or other close relative.b Rebecca would have been 52 years old when Cath was born, and furthermore Patterson & Rebecca already had a daughter named Catherine. Cath might have been a daughter of either Henry, William or Harrison Hinchey.b
