In 1910 E. Henry Hinshaw and Arley E. Shirley opened the "Hinshaw & Shirley Undertakers" business at 3016 N. Illinois, Indianapolis, Indiana.10  

The following article was published in The Indianapolis Star (Indianapolis, Indiana) on Wednesday, October 23, 1912:11

Mrs. Henry Hinshaw, a well-known local musician, will be pianist for the operetta, "Jack and the Beanstalk," which is to be presented Saturday afternoon and evening at the German House for the benefit of the Indianapolis Playgrounds Association.  Music will be furnished by the Shortridge High School Orchestra.  The advance sale of seats for the production has been strong and the managers are putting the finishing touches on the cast after several weeks of hard work with the principals and the juvenile chorus.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Mr. E. Henry Hinshaw, formerly of Hinshaw & Shirley, undertakers, wishes to make known to the public the firm of Hinshaw & Shirley has dissolved and Mr. Hinshaw is connected with the well-known firm of Blanchard & Moore, 787 Mass. Ave., where he will be glad to serve you in their prompt, ever-ready, courteous way.

The very next day the funeral directors Frank A. Blanchard, Fred T. Moore and E. Henry Hinshaw began advertising as "Blanchard, Moore & Hinshaw", 737 Massachusetts Avenue.13

A. E. SHIRLEY wishes to announce that he has taken charge of the undertaking establishment located at 3020 North Illinois, formerly Hinshaw & Shirley.  Ambulance service, lady attendant, carriages, flowers, chairs and tables furnished for all occasions; courteous service.

Minnie died Apr 7 1914, at her parents' home, 824 Udell Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana; age 33.9

Woman Who Was Music Teacher
When 14 Years Old Is Dead

Mrs. Minnie Power Hinshaw, 23 years old, wife of Henry Hinshaw, and one of the best known musicians in Indianapolis, died at midnight Tuesday at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Power, 824 Udell street.  Mrs. Hinshaw had been in ill health since last August, and underwent an operation in October at the Methodist Hospital.  She then was taken to her parents' home, where she suffered a relapse in January, and had been failing since.  The funeral will be held at 3:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at her parents' home.  

Mrs. Hinshaw began the study of music when very young in Bucyrus, O., and graduated from the Indianapolis Conservatory of Music as a student of the piano when only 13 years old.  At 14 she was a teacher of music and had twelve pupils.  She played in recitals and entertainments throughout the state and was pianist at the Sloan School, of which she also was a graduate, for five years.  In addition to teaching music, she composed a number of pieces.  When but 8 years old she composed a number entitled "Papa's Birthday".  

She is survived by her husband, by a 4-year-old daughter, by her parents and by two brothers, William J. and Robert S. Power.  Her father and brothers also are musicians.

He then married Jeanne Jones, Oct 30 1915, Marion County, Indiana.2  Jeanne was born Sep 22 1887, Indiana.1,2,7  

E. Henry Hinshaw, age 37, registered for the World War I draft in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.  He declared he was born January 4 1881, and was then residing at 701 North East St., Indianapolis, Indiana where he was a self-employed undertaker.  He declared his nearest relative was Jeanne Hinshaw of the same address.  He was recorded as medium height, stout, brown eyes, brown hair.3  

Henry and family were shown in the 1920 census, 37 West 13th Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana:1

Hinshaw, Jean, wife, age 32, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana.
Hinshaw, Catherine, daughter, age 9, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; attended school.

Henry and Jeanne were shown in the 1930 census (Apr 4 1930), 2727 Bellifontaine Street, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana:7

Hinshaw, E. Henry, head-of-household, age 49, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; first married at age 26; owned home ($6000 value); radio in home; occupation: funeral director, undertaking; not a war veteran.
Hinshaw, Jeanne, wife, age 42, born in Indiana; parents born in Indiana; first married at age 28.

Eli Henry Hinshaw died Jan 6 1938, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana.15  

Henry's obituary was published in "The American Friend" on February 3, 1938 (page 60).15
