On May 6 1864 Frank enlisted as a private in 12th Company, Massachusetts Infantry (unattached infantry regiment); mustered in May 16 1864; mustered out Aug 15 1864. He served as a clerk stationed at Long's Point, Provincetown. Distinguished Service. He declared his residence as Cambridge, Massachusetts.¹²

Frank was shown in the 1870 census (Jul 18 1870), living in what appears to have been a boarding/rooming house in Chicago, Illinois:³
